INFO PÅ ENGELSK:
G.O.A.’L was founded in March 1998 by some adoptees from Europe and the USA. Since then it has steadily grown and is offering a whole variety of services to adoptees. Our main services are as follows:
- Birthparents search assistance
- Translation services (e-mails and letters) between adoptees and their birthfamilies
- Interpreters for birthfamily reunions
- Scholarships for Korean Language Institutes (Ewha, Sogang, Kyunghee and HanSung University, 38 scholarships per year)
- Individual Tutoring of Korean language
- General education of the Korean society on adoption issues (by working with media and politicians)
- Lobbying for changes in laws and for more support for Korean adoptees by the Korean government
- International networking
- Internship program
- Annual conference
- Bi-annual MT with cultural and social background
- General help with settling in Korea (getting cellphone, bank account, F4 visa, accomodation, employment etc.)
We run our office (currently near Seodaemoon) with a mix of Korean nationals and adoptees. Since 2002 we have been officially recognized by the Korean government as a non-profit organization and since March 2004 we have gained the status of a NGO (non-governmental organization).
For birthparents search we recommend the following steps:
- Get in touch with the Korean adoption agency and try to get as much data as possible. The Korean adoption agency (Holt, KSS, ECSW or SWS) has the original file with your data and therefore the chances to find vital information for the search at your Korean adoption agency are the highest.
- In case you can’t find any further clues to your case you can register online on our webbased database at http://www.goal.or.kr -> Family Search -> Online Form
- If you need help with the form or the registration process you can contact our post adoption services department at services@goal.or.kr
- We work closely with the police departments and district offices in case we have some information on the birthfamily.
- In case you didn’t get any usable information we can connect you to the media (TV, newspaper, radio etc.). We often work with the media.
In case you need more information on the F4 visa or any other information on living in Korea, you can contact our office at office@goal.or.kr
Currently there are more and more adoptees returning to Korea. Many just come to experience life in Korea, others are searching for their birthparents. Whatever the motivation is, G.O.A.’L has continually supported numerous adoptees in their endeavours since its existence.
